Lebanon is the Most Expensive Arab in the "Cost of Living" Index

The Cost of Living Index, issued by Numbeo for the year 2021, revealed that Lebanon is the most expensive Arab country, followed by Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain and Palestine, while Libya appended the list of countries included in the aforementioned index.

According to the index, Lebanon, which is plagued by a historical financial crisis that has never been witnessed since the civil war (1975-1990), came first among the Arab countries in this regard, while it ranked 24th at the global level. While Lebanon ranked 34th in the world among 132 countries around the world in the 2020 index.

This index is based on its evaluation of countries and their classification in different ranks, from the prices of consumer goods, such as vegetables, fruits, meals and drinks in restaurants, in addition to the costs of transportation, residential and office units.

As for Qatar, which ranked second among the Arab countries, it ranked 35th in the world, followed by the UAE in 3rd place among the Arab countries and 37th among the countries of the world. Then Bahrain came fourth in the Arab world and 41 globally. Palestine ranked 5th in the Arab world and 44th globally, followed by Jordan 6 and 55, respectively, then Yemen 7 and 58, Oman 8 and 61, Saudi Arabia 9 and 62, Kuwait 10 and 63, Morocco 11 and 100, Iraq 12 and 112. And Egypt came in the 13th Arab rank, compared to the 123rd in the world, followed by Tunisia in the 14th and 126th places, respectively, then Syria 15 and 129, Algeria 16 and 131, Libya 17 regionally and 138 globally.
